Bomb disposal experts conduct explosions in Long Marston
BOMB disposal experts carried out three controlled explosions in Long Marston this morning (Monday), after a number of World War II mortar shells were discovered.
The discovery was reported to Warwickshire Police by a member of staff from a nearby business at around 7.30pm last night (Sunday).
A police spokeswoman said: "We were made aware that a number of what was thought to be World War II mortar shells had been discovered in the Long Marston area. The shells were not believed to be a danger to the public."
She continued: "Bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended this morning and have conducted three controlled explosions.
"A scene guard was immediately put in place after we were alerted to the discovery. As a precaution a small section of Long Marston Road was closed near to the junction toward Pebworth and a 230 metre cordon was put in place."
