SARAH Wheeler won her age category in the scenic Evesham Festive 10k race last weekend.

Now in its fourth year and formerly known as Race for Grace Festive 10k and Myositis Evesham Festive 10k, this event has raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes.

This year, all profits will go to the charity Children with Cancer UK, the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer.

Wheeler was one of two Stratford AC competitors in the race, claiming 18th overall in a time of 43.18.

She was first in her age category and second female, losing out on top spot by just 27 seconds.

Wheeler said: “It was a lovely route, although the weather made it much tougher, especially the churned up farmers’ fields.

“I need to remember to check the weather reports, because running in glasses when it’s raining is not a good idea.”

Club-mate Lisa Whittington finished in 210th place, with a time of 1.08.01.

295 runners completed the race, which was won by Owen Grant in a time of 36.13. The first lady to finish, in 17th place, was Shona Crombie-Hicks, in a time of 42.51.

In the one-mile junior race, Sarah’s son Henry romped home in first place, which was just reward for his hard work in training.
