Hotel giant Hilton has taken over one of Stratford’s best known hotels as the chain seeks to expand its DoubleTree brand.

The Stratford is one of five hotels across the country set to be added to the DoubleTree portfolio, with more than 50 properties either already trading or set to take the DoubleTree name across the UK and Ireland.

The move is expected to lead to the creation of new jobs at The Stratford.

Daniel Goodby, General Manager at The Stratford, said: “We are working with Hilton, our owners and our management company, RBH, on the exciting developments at The Stratford.

“We expect to welcome guests under our new brand later this year and, in addition, we will expand our team at the hotel as a result.

“In the meantime, we’ll be operating business as usual, and our guests should expect our customary warm welcome and high standards of service.”

Since 2007 The Stratford has been operated by QHotels along with its sister property the Stratford Manor, with that name later acquired by investment company Aprirose.

However a franchise agreement between Aprirose and Hilton means the Stratford will become a DoubleTree hotel, though it is not believed there any current plans to re-brand the Stratford Manor.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said: “With the addition of these outstanding hotels, DoubleTree by Hilton has grown to more than 50 properties trading or under development across the UK & Ireland. Fundamental to its success has been the diversity of the portfolio. These properties, which range from exclusive landscaped resorts with considerable sporting and spa amenities, to an impressive hotel in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, will further enhance the brand’s offering to business and leisure guests.”

Helder Pereira, CEO of RBH, added: “We are looking forward to building our already strong working relationship with Hilton, by welcoming five more DoubleTree by Hilton properties to our growing portfolio, in addition to DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre.

“The five hotels in question are fine examples of upscale, full-service properties, and we look forward to offering our expertise in operating each one to give our guests the best possible experience under a globally-recognised brand.”

The 102 bedroom Stratford Hotel, which was built in 1996, also has a restaurant and gym.

It was privately owned and run by Marston Hotels until 2007.
