The forecast storm for Saturday has forced organisers to cancel Alcester Food Festival

ALCESTER’S hugely popular Food Festival has been cancelled this Saturday over fears that strong winds could endanger life.

Festival organisers have announced that “with great regret” the food festival has had to be cancelled after the Met Office said wind speeds of 57 mph could hit the town.

Alison Brown, one of the organisers, said the whole team of volunteers was “devastated and gutted” but the decision was made to safeguard life.

A statement from the festival organisers reads:

“On the advice of our insurance company, Eventmen and the Met Office, it is with regret that we have to inform that the Alcester Food Festival on 21st October has to be cancelled due to predicted gusts of wind of well over 25mph, which exceeds the safe limit.

As organisers we have a duty of care to all our stallholders and visitors and it has been decided that the risks are too high to hold the event.

This decision has not been taken lightly. According to our terms and conditions we will carry forward booking fees to next year and consider refunds, but cannot accept liability for loss of trade.

We value the support the event has from all of you and hope to see you all again next year on 19th May.”
