Stolen banners and gatherings in the house of God… it’s been a busy time for Stratford parliamentary candidates

Last week was a busy one for Stratford parliamentary candidates as they have been out on the campaign trail ahead of the general election on 4th July.

Known as ‘going on the stump’ - eg, travelling around giving political speeches - all five candidates did their best to put their message across.

But it’s not all been going smoothly.

Sleuths were out in Lighthorne to try and find the sneaky thief who had taken down the Lib Dems signature yellow diamond boards - one giant one and four smaller - that were staked and cable tied securely. As yet the Lib Dems were not making any accusations who the culprit might be, but apparently Ring camera footage was being forensically examined.

All was peaceful when all six candidates turned up at a meet-the-voters event at Stour Valley Baptist Church organised by Churches Together on Sunday. Over 130 people came along, with one jocular chap commenting on the shared photo of the politicians alongside priests: “May God help us!”

Meanwhile Reform UK candidate James Crocker is so assured of his loyal ‘congregation’ that he was charging £2 per ticket to hear him speak at Tiddington’s Home Guard club last Wednesday. Maybe he has Donald Trump-style aspirations to fill a stadium while pocketing a pretty penny one day? He can forget Stratford FC’s though - that is assuredly blue territory, regularly hosting Conservative events.

Speaking of which, Tory Chris Clarkson has certainly been covering many miles on the road this week - he’s popping up all over the constituency. Or is it that he just doesn’t know his way round yet? (Joke! In the interests of non-bias reporting please note that this joke can be recycled and reused with Labour candidate Seyi Agboola’s name instead.)
