A PROJECT to refurbish the Ken Kennett Community Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon is moving forward with the building scheduled to re-open in July.

Some £40,000 will be invested in the centre over the coming months with new kitchen facilities, flooring, heating, windows and a new lobby, all set to be installed.

The money, which has been provided by the district and town councils through Section 106 funding (money from housing developers), is already secured and the district council is currently tendering for companies to carry out the work.

Cllr Jason Fojtik, of the Clopton Community Action Group, which has led the project, confirmed that the group was hopeful the centre would reopen on 21st July during their annual fun day.

He added that around half a dozen organisations, including Springfield Mind, had expressed an interest in using the facility when the refurbishment is complete.

This week marks two years since the Clopton Community Forum was forced to close the Ken Kennett Centre due to financial difficulties.
