Ex-Warwickshire teacher jailed after sexual offences involving a girl under 13
A FORMER schoolteacher has been jailed after admitting sexual offences involving a girl aged under 13.
Matthew Udall, who was living in Meon Vale and teaching at a school in South Warwickshire, pleaded guilty to two counts under the Sexual Offences Act.
He was sentenced to a total of 31 months in prison by the Honorary Recorder of Coventry, Judge Lockhart, KC, at a hearing at Warwick Crown Court on 20th August last year.
The 31-year-old, who gave his address as Regan Avenue, was also given a sexual harm prevention order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Udall appeared at Warwick magistrates court on 21st June 2024.
During a plea hearing at Warwick Crown Court on 12th July 2024, he pleaded guilty to causing/inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity – no penetration – and attempting to observe a person doing a private act.
The Herald cannot name the school, due to legal reasons.
A spokesperson for the school, said: “The school were made aware in July 2022 of a child protection concern regarding a now ex-member of staff.
“The school immediately acted and within minutes of being informed the staff member was escorted off site and an investigation immediately carried out.He was dismissed following this.
“The pre-emptive action taken prevented any risk of harm to any student.”
The statement continued: “The school informed the police and all appropriate authorities to ensure that all students are protected in the school and beyond.
“Safeguarding of students remains our number one priority.”
A Warwickshire County Council spokesperson said: “We cannot comment on individual cases but we can confirm that safeguarding children is always our primary concern and we have processes and procedures in place to support schools, services and other agencies to respond to local incidents.”
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said Udall was arrested on 1st July 2022 after the school raised concerns around him.”
