Handful of drivers ignore drink-drive messages
JUST 43 of the 803 drivers who were stopped during the Christmas drink-drive campaign failed or refused a test.
Warwickshire Police said it equated to five per cent, with a further 13 failing the new roadside drugs test throughout December
As well as enforcement activity, the consequences of being caught driving under the influence were highlighted across social media and local radio advertising took place across the region.
The advertising campaign supported the national month long winter drink drive enforcement campaign that was launched on 1st December by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC).
Figures indicate that, over the past three years, eight people were killed and 81 seriously injured in Warwickshire following collisions where drink or drugs were recorded as a contributory factor.
Warwickshire Police Chief Constable Martin Jelley said: “The percentage of those motorists testing positive for alcohol or drugs is low and this is encouraging, showing that the message is getting through.
"However there are still irresponsible drivers thinking they can risk drinking and driving or driving under the influence of drugs, ignoring the devastating consequences that this can cause for them, their family, friends and other road users.”
