A COLLECTION of books that will be prescribed to people living with dementia and their carers is now available at Bidford Library.

The collection, comprising a broad spectrum of titles about dementia, including resources for carers and patients, has been chosen from a national scheme of recognised titles from The Reading Agency called Reading Well.

The scheme operates in conjunction with local health centres whereby doctors can prescribe titles that are likely to help patients, families and carers cope with the condition. Bidford Community Library used grant funding to buy a core collection of titles and a display stand to bring all the resources together.

The collection was launched by Cllr Mike Gittus, who was representing Cllr Mike Brain, who had awarded the grant to the library from money he is allocated by Warwickshire County Council to donate to community projects in his ward.

The library already plays host every Monday morning to Springfield Mind, an organisation able to provide a high quality of support, information and signposting for all those in need.

Wendy Lancaster, who runs the very successful Bidford Dementia Café on Monday mornings at Westholme Court in the village, has expressed her support for the initiative as has Dr Tim Shackley from Bidford Health Centre.

Dementia Awareness Week began on Monday, 16th May.
