David Bliss, an executor and manager of late flamboyant millionaire publisher Dennis’ estate in Dorsington, said: “Hopefully, people who came to the auction will be able to walk through the wood in years to come and remember the story. The proceeds of the auction will allow us to carry on with his dream of planting the Heart of England Forest.

“It (the auction) was everything that I wanted it to be because it brought so many local people together, It was more like a party than an auction and Felix loved a party.”

Among the top selling items at were The Ascot Cup which went for £67,000 while there were a host of other unusual items which went under the hammer such as a life size model of Captain Hook with parrot.
