Peak of fitness for Ron aged 80
MANY people celebrating their 80th birthday might envisage a nice piece of cake and a cup of tea to mark the occasion but Ron Grant of Stratford-upon-Avon has other ideas.
To celebrate his 80th Ron is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for The Shakespeare Hospice and Stratford Samaritans.
He’s already walked up Mount Snowdon (3,560 feet) and is heading for Scafel Pike (3,206 feet) on 20th May and Ben Nevis (4,406 feet) on 22nd July.
Both Ron and his wife, Anne, do voluntary work for the hospice and the Samaritans, where Anne has volunteered for 25 years.
So far Ron has been pledged £1,500 and hopes to raise more money before his donation page closes on 31st August. His son Stephen will accompany Ron on his next two peak challenges
“We wanted to support both charities and every Christmas we are involved with the hospice Light Up a Life Tree in Bridge Street. The amount we finally raise will be shared between the two charities,” Ron said.
