Schools host biennial careers and higher education fair

A NUMBER of local businesses exhibited at the Higher Education and Careers Fair which was hosted at Warwick School and Kings High School.

With over 120 exhibitors offering advice on the prospects for the younger generation, the wide variety of apprenticeship schemes proposing an alternative to spending a further three years in higher education, has witnessed rise in the number of people opting to choose paid work experience, due to the high fees of most universities.

In addition to apprenticeships, there was a distinct range of job sectors, including new careers in cyber security and biotechnology, and other possibilities to university such as studying abroad and the chance to take a gap year.

A few universities came from abroad, including The University of Maastricht and a representative from The University of Sydney.

For those taking A Level examinations this year, it gave students the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of what is available after finishing education in school. Therefore deciding whether university is the right choice and looking at the thousands of different courses available for students nowadays, to continue their studies.

Neighbouring Myton School pupils were invited to this biennial event, along with Warwick School and King’s High School students. Overall the evening was a thorough success, illustrating the many paths towards a rewarding and exciting career in the future.

Companies included Radiant Worlds, Warwickshire Police, Aston Martin, JLR, Wright Hassall, ‘Kissing it Better’ and Guide Dogs for the Blind’ charities, Nuffield Health, Kura Aviation, Compton Verney, Genesis DM Ltd, South Warwickshire Foundation Trust and many more. Many national companies travelled to exhibit with the likes of Aldi, Barclays, KPMG, Siemens, IBM, Deloitte and the Armed Forces to name but a few.
