Wife's tribute to pensioner who died in crash

THE man who died after a collision in Tesco car park in Stratford has been named as Bryan Robert Stacey, from Wilmcote.

Ambulance crews administered life support but were unable to save Mr Stacey who died at the scene on Monday, 9th October.

This week his wife Sybil, paid tribute to Bryan, talking about the 86-year-old's passion for sport. She said: "Bryan loved golf, cricket and football in that order. In our more mobile days we went to all the large golf tournaments in the country, met most of the golfing celebrities and have some treasured photographs.

"Bryan followed cricket and football closely on television and if England lost the test match or the golf tournament he threatened to lower all the blinds as a mark of respect. I prefer rugby and told him if he did so, I would lower them when the English rugby team lost too!

"The flag Bryan always raised to celebrate English sport is still flying on its flagpole at the bottom of our garden and will remain there until it wears out."

The accident took place just before 4.50pm when the victim’s car collided with another car and a tree.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a rapid response paramedic and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered an elderly man in cardiac arrest following a collision between a car and a tree.

“Ambulance staff administered CPR and advanced life support in an attempt to restart the patient’s heart.

“However, sadly it became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “The collision took place at approximately 4.50pm and involved a Hyundai IX20, a Nissan Qashqai and a tree.”

“If you have any information relating to this collision please contact Warwickshire Police on 101 referencing incident 293 091017.”

The family have asked that their privacy be respected at this time.

Bryan's funeral will take place at Oakley Wood crematorium from 2pm on Friday, 10th November. Family flowers only and any donations to be forwarded to the Stratford Hospital Appeal.
