Abbie leads the way for Stratford Tri
STRATFORD Triathlon Club’s Abbie Wootton claimed a superb victory in the third race of the West Midlands Junior Series at Lucton Junior School.
The first race of the day was the youth category (368m swim/8km bike/3 km run) where the club were represented by three youth athletes.
First up was Ben Jones, who finished in third place in the boys’ race (48.09) picking up another trophy for his ever-growing collection.
The girls were represented by Hope Lawton, who also finished third in the girls’ race (52.09) and Wootton, who finished first in the girls’ race (50.00), continuing her fine run of results this season.
Next up for the club were the Tri Star 3 athletes (276m swim/6km bike/2.4km run), where the club were represented by three athletes in the girls’ race.
Freya Fines-Allin finished seventh (43.52), Helena West who finished fifth (42.26) and Lucy Sainsbury, who was unlucky to be disqualified from the race despite a splendid performance.
The boys were represented by Joshua Mitchell, who finished in a magnificent third place (35.26) to gain his first podium finish of the season.
The Tri Star 2 category athletes were next to race (184m swim/4km bike/1.8km run).
In the boys’ race Theo Skirvin finished in seventh (31.18) but Oscar Fines-Allin was disappointed to be disqualified from the race despite putting in a performance that would have given him a top-two finish.
The Tri Star 2 girls were represented by Charlotte Marshall, who finished in eighth place (30.57) and Molly Bullock, who finished in sixth place (30.26).
Juliette Marshall was the only athlete racing for the club in the Tri Star 1 category, finishing in a respectable 11th place (24.21).
Last up were the Tri Star Start athletes where the club was represented by Martha Bullock in the girls’ race.
Bullock continued her fine form in her debut season, finishing in second place (12.07) following on from first-place finishes in her previous two races.
At Duston, triathlon brothers Joshua Flower (TS1) and Lewis Flower (TS3) were making their debut for the club in a competitive race and finished 29th and 30th in their races.
A regular competitor at Duston, Lucy Sainsbury, was 26th in TS3. In the youth category, Stratford packed the top finishing places with Abbie Wootton coming in first, Hope Lawton in fourth and Daisy Nicolle fifth.
At the recent BRAT Lichfield Sprint Triathlon, Ben Jones turned on the style in the youths race.
The event involved a 20km bike section on the roads and the youths were racing at the same time as the adults.
A very assured performance from Ben saw him come first in the youth race and finish ahead of most of the adults.
The performances from all athletes highlighted the strength of Stratford Tri Club across all age categories.
