Adams calls for a show of character from Town in Senior Cup clash
FOOTBALL
CARL Adams will demand a show of character from his Stratford Town players as they turn their attention to the Birmingham Senior Cup tonight (Tuesday).
The Town manager was furious with the performance on Saturday when Stratford suffered a 4-0 Southern Premier defeat at Hitchin Town, with Adams labelling it as ‘probably the worst Town performance under my leadership’.
He says they need to deliver a response tonight when Solihull Moors visit the MoodChimp Stadium for a first-round tie in the county competition (7.45pm).
“Nobody turned up. We were very poor and very weak and that’s saying it as it was,” said Adams.
“Heads are down, and it’s all about character now. I’ve just got to lift them for Tuesday’s game against the Moors and then our next league game at home to Dunstable.”
It seemd Town were suffering a hangover from the previous midweek’s FA Cup heartache against Scarborough Athletic at Top Field on Saturday as Hitchin controlled large parts of play and Stratford struggled to create any real chances.
Brett Donnelly’s double propelled the Canaries into 2-0 half-time lead, and substitute Trey Charles added two more in the final 11 minutes as a totally out-of-sorts Town managed only three goal attempts all afternoon none of which were on target.
Dan Summerfield and Edwin Ahenkorah were both on the bench at the weekend despite not being 100 per cent fit and Adams will hope they can shrug off their injuries to feature tonight.
Town then welcome Dunstable to the MoodChimp next Saturday before they visit Evesham United a week on Wednesday (18th October) in a rearranged Bigfreebet.com Challenge Cup tie. The second-round draw has handed the winners a trip to Redditch United.
