Adams proud of Stratford Town's young guns
STRATFORD Town manager Carl Adams says the club are “proud” of its young players after they clinched an excellent 4-3 victory in the Southern League Challenge Cup at Redditch on Tuesday night.
Town fielded a youthful side at the Valley Stadium, naming a number of players from last season’s successful youth team.
Ben Ellicott, Rob Ormston and Callum Ingram were all involved and helped Stratford hit back from 3-1 down to claim a memorable victory against their local rivals.
With the game seemingly heading for a penalty shoot-out, Ellicott popped up with the winner a minute from time to send the Town faithful delirious.
The game was an opportunity for the young players to show what they can do and they certainly took it, leaving Adams delighted.
“It was a great night, a great result and a great performance from all the youngsters,” he said.
“All the lads from last season’s youth team were exceptional and that shows the potential we have coming through.
“We are in a very healthy position as a club. We have a lot of good young lads coming through and the first team is also very young.”
Stratford return to Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division action this weekend with a home game against third-placed Dunstable.
Saturday’s visitors have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, but they have lost their last three games in all competitions.
Following his excellent performance against Redditch, Dior Angus looks almost certain to start, while skipper Richard Gregory misses out as he serves his final game of his three-game ban.
Recent signing Darnell Benjamin is rated as 50/50 after injuring his ankle at Redditch.
