ALCESTER Town's Midland League Division Three promotion hopes were left hanging by a thread after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to AFC Solihull at Stratford Road on Thursday night.

Danny Janes' side led at the break through Matt Fearon, but the visitors scored twice in the second half to claim all three points.

Alcester can still finish in the division's top two if they win all three of their remaining games and Boldmere lose their final two, one of which takes place at Stratford Road this Saturday.

Meanwhile, FC Stratford are now completely ruled out of the promotion race after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Coventrians.

Ben Pattison put Stratford ahead, but Coventrians equalised late on to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

Jordan Perrins got the only goal of the game as Shipston Excelsior slipped to a 1-0 home defeat to CT Shush.
