Alcester youngsters treated to a Wasps training session

A GROUP of Alcester Rugby Club junior players had a once in a lifetime experience recently when they had a training session on the Ricoh Arena pitch with Wasps’ director of rugby Dai Young.

The session was a competition prize, won by parent Debbie Burgess, from Ricoh Imagine Change and was organised in conjunction with Premiership Rugby and Wasps Community.

Wasps moved to the Ricoh from their previous home in Wycombe in December 2014.

Since then the team have gone from strength to strength, reaching this year’s European Champions Cup semi-final and a Premiership semi-final play-off.

The youngsters, aged between eight and 11, had the chance to run out of the tunnel and sit in the players’ bench seats before they received their training session.

Young, who is known as one of the most genuine directors of rugby in the Premiership, got hands-on with the coaching.

After the training there was a question and answer session with the Wasps’ chief. The boys then asked him some probing questions about his playing and coaching career.
