Another leg break mars impressive Stratford success
STRATFORD secured their second South West 1 East win on the trot with a hard-fought 25-20 victory over Wimborne at Pearcecroft on Saturday.
The Black and Whites won it thanks to tries from skipper Jo Cook (2) and winger Dan Whitby, in a game that was delayed for 40 minutes after Wimborne second row Tom Starr suffered a broken leg.
Starr’s injury follows Stratford prop Jon Tarrant’s broken leg in the previous fixture between the two clubs in November, which forced the original game to be abandoned.
“It was a case of unbelievable circumstances,” said Stratford director of rugby, Tom Rance.
“You could play that game out a thousand times and it wouldn’t turn out the way it did.
“Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Tom and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.”
Rance was delighted with the manner in how Stratford started the game, but felt the enforced delay hindered both teams.
He added: “We started quite strongly, but with the delay the game became massively disjointed. There was a lack of discipline on both sides and the game just didn’t flow.
“On the plus side, our defensive effort was good at times and to get a second win on the bounce is great, especially as we are back on the road this weekend.”
Stratford make the trip to seventh-placed Salisbury on Saturday.
