Bailey and Malik prove too strong for Pershore




THE Wildmoor Tennis League moved into week four with Stratford A two points clear at the top of the Premier Division.

Stratford A won 3-1 at Pershore A to move onto 14 points and maintain their lead over second-place Chipping Campden A, who also won 3-1 at Alcester A.

Alcester B move up into third place with Alcester A in fourth and Ardencote A move down into fifth.

The bottom of the table is unchanged with Henley A in sixth, Redditch A seventh place and Pershore A in eighth.

Stratford pair Callum Bailey and Cameron Malik maintained their good form and defeated the Pershore pair of Mike Langston and George Southall 6-4, 6-1 in the first rubber and then beat Jon Guppy and Julian Ramos 6-0, 6-0.

Stratford’s Pieter Uys-Barnard and Max Hurtubise beat Guppy and Ramos 7-5, 6-3, and then lost to Langston and Southall 1-6, 4-6 to give Stratford a 3-1 success.

Chipping Campden A kept the pressure on by beating Alcester A 3-1. Campden’s first pair of Martyn Ledbury and Geoff Vaughan narrowly beat Alcester’s Stuart Beach and Alex Woodbridge 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 and then beat Barney Williams and Harvey Williams (Alcester) 6-1, 6-3.

Tom Partridge and Robert Watkins (Campden) won 6-4, 6-3, over Williams and Williams, but then lost 0-6, 4-6 to Beach and Woodbridge.

Third place in the Premier Division is Alcester B, who move up the table after 4-0 win over a Redditch A side who could only field one pair.

Pete Watson and Sam Thruston-Nend beat Lubo Smoliar amd Ben Portman (Redditch) 6-2, 6-4.

In the only other rubber, the other Alcester pair of James Clemons and Ben Shepherd beat Smoliar and Portman 6-0, 6-0 to take all the points.

Ardencote A won 3-1 away to Henley A with Ardencote pair Ben Summers and Pete Thomas beating Sam Turner and Oli Didlick 6-0, 7-5.

They also beat Henley’s second pair of Tom Griffiths and Brett Mackay 6-3, 3-6, 1-0.

Ardencote’s Jack Smith and John Turner lost 2-6, 5-7 to Griffiths and Mackay, but won 6-2, 6-2 in the final rubber against Henley’s Turner and Didlick.

In Division One, Littleton A have moved to the top of the table by beating previous leaders Stratford B 4-0.

Evesham A remain in second one point behind after winning 3-1 at Inkberrow A.

Moreton A are in third on sets difference after drawing 2-2 at Studley A. In the other match, Ardencote B won 3-1 at home to Alcester C.

Division Two also saw a new leader as Henley B topped the table with a 4-0 home win over Inkberrow B. Claverdon A dropped down into second with a 2-2 draw at Shipston A, while Snitterfield A move into third by winning 4-0 at FISSC.

The match between Chipping Campden B and Claverdon B ended 2-2.

Division Three results saw a top-of-the-table clash between Pershore B and Warwick, resulting in a 3-1 win to Pershore, who go clear at the top by one point.

Studley B move into second place by beating Redditch C 4-0.

Bidford A beat Redditch B 4-0 and move into fourth place behind Warwick. In the other match Snitterfield B beat Inkberrow C 3-1.

Wildmoor Spa A pulled one point clear at the top of the Division Four table thanks to a 3-1 home success over Chipping Campden C.

Shipston B are in second place on sets difference with a 2-2 draw at Evesham B, who are third.

In the other matches, Aston Cantlow won 3-1 at Bidford B and Claverdon C drew 2-2 with Tysoe.

In Division Five, Stratford C stay top following a 4-0 win over Moreton C.

Warwickshire CC move up into second with a 4-0 away win against Inkberrow D.

Moreton B remain in third on games difference despite a 3-1 dedeat at Henley C.
