Bards up to second and Romans stay top

STRATFORD Town climbed up to second in the Southern League Premier Central table following a 2-0 win at Biggleswade Town on Saturday.

And the game also saw the return of midfielder Jack Storer, back at the club following a spell playing in Gibraltar.

Defender Chris Hussey scored the opener at the start of the second half, sending the keeper the wrong way with a penalty after Charlie Williams had been fouled.

Hussey was also involved in the Bards’ second late on, linking up with substitute Storer before Dan Lafferty finished with aplomb.

In the MFL Premier Division, a goal from Mason Chisholm helped Studley to a 1-1 draw at Northwich Victoria while Earlswood Town were beaten 3-1 at AFC Solihull in Division Two.

Southam United were unable to build on back-to-back victories in the cup and Hellenic League Two as they lost 1-0 at home to high-fliers Abingdon United while goals from Anthony Umoh and Ralfie Penton wrapped up Stratford Town’s 2-1 win at home to Bewdley Town as they maintained their play-off place.

Alcester Town won a thriller 5-3 at Clee Hill United in the Herefordshire Premier to stay top of the pile while Shipston Excelsior were convincing 4-0 winners at home to Longford Park in Division One of the Oxfordshire Senior League.
