WARWICKSHIRE Bears were crowned National League First Division South champions after winning their final game of the season on Sunday.

The Bears comfortably saw off CWBA 68-35 as they booked their spot in this year’s BWB National League Play-offs in Sheffield on 26th and 27th May.

At the same time, they also secured promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history.

Bears took a firm grip of the game, going into an early lead and they never looked back.

“I know I’ve said it a lot this season but I’m immensely proud of this team,” said coach, Tom Masterson.

“Six years ago we had six registered players and entering the league in Division Three and we now are entering the Premier Division, playing against the top teams featuring international players. We can now look forward to the national play-offs again and see what happens there.”

Bears’ third team took on CWBA thirds, but they were unable to make it a double as they went down to a 40-28 defeat in National League Third Division Central.

Coach, Jacob Robinson, said: “It was a great performance from a young squad against a team with age on their side. It’s been a very successful season and I couldn’t be happier with where the squad is at now.”
