MICHAEL McGrath has left Stratford Town to sign for Northern League Premier Division side Hednesford Town.

The 30-year-old was a key man in the Town midfield last season, claiming eight man-of-the-match awards to help Town retain their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division status.

“I have known of him for a number of seasons and he actually scored the winning goal against my side last season," said Hednesford boss Liam McDonald, who was in charge at Redditch last season.

“Michael picked up a player of the year award last season and he will compliment what we already have.

“He has also been in full-time football, which will help us no end with his experience and he is another good addition to the squad.”

McGrath, who spent eight months at the DCS Stadium, said: “My aim is to get the club back into the league where they have just come from.

"It is exciting for me to be coming here and working with the manager who has been very clear with what his plans are for this season.

“I know this level of football very well having played in this league and above for around ten seasons now."

While the news comes as a big blow to Carl Adams, the Town boss has been busy strengthening his squad this week.

Town have swooped for ex-Leamington and Kettering Town goalkeeper Niall Cooper, while former Corby Town centre-back Edi Appleton has also agreed to sign on at the DCS.
