GIRLS from Claverdon School are celebrating after winning the Warwickshire Kwik Cricket competition.

Having won a local tournament in Leamington Spa, Claverdon’s year six team progressed to the final held at the Edgbaston Foundation Ground on 30th June.

Claverdon played some excellent cricket during the tournment, scoring a total of 344 runs and conceding just six.

Other finalists included The Shrubbery School, Moseley Primary School, Highfield J&I School, Timberley Academy and Percy Shurmer Academy.

On returning to the school, the team received a standing ovation from the teaching staff, pupils and a commitment from the headteacher to buy a bigger trophy cabinet.

“It’s been a privilege to work with such an inspirational group of girls,” said the school’s PE coordinator, Naomi Glover.

“Seven out of the eight will be leaving at the end of the year, but the legacy they leave behind will be felt for years to come as younger girls in school look up to them and strive to be like them.”

The Claverdon girls have also enjoyed plenty of success in football, having won every match they have played this season.
