Copperthwaite crowned club champion
ROB Copperthwaite was crowned club champion following a thrilling contest at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club last Saturday.
Having shot a level-par round of 72, Copperthwaite trailed six-time champion James Smith by three after he shot an impressive three-under 69.
At this stage, it looked like it would be between the two of them and that proved the case.
With Smith scoring a steady level-par 72 in the afternoon and with Copperthwaite playing two hours behind him in the draw, he knew exactly what was required.
Turning through nine holes of the afternoon at two-under, Copperthwaite then made a further two birdies with no drop shots to record a final round four-under 68, winning the trophy by one shot.
Meanwhile, Stratford GC’s scratch team were also in action, recording a draw with Kenilworth Golf Club.
Other member section teams have played recently, continuing their busy calendar with matches against Broadway, Nuneaton, Leamington and County, Copt Heath and Ladbrook Park.
