Crowds gather for Alcester’s annual 10k




BEN Kruze took the honours in Sunday’s Alcester 10k, finishing nearly 30 seconds clear of his nearest challenger.

The Stratford AC runner completed the course in 31.58 to ensure he was also first in the over 40 category. Sphinx AC’s David Brewis was second in 32.24 ahead of another Stratford AC runner Andy Lawrence (32.43).

The women’s event was won by Lisa Thomas, from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC, in a time of 37.44 with teenager Maisie Joy Spriggs coming second (38.07) for Stratford AC. Tamsin Bowden (39.30) was third for Evesham Vale Running Club.

More than 1,000 runners took part in the event which is organised each year by Raceways and takes competitors through the villages of Great Alne and Haselor before heading back into Alcester.

Other notable runs on the day came from Evesham Vale runner Bob Pope who won the men’s over 60 category in 41.55 with Judy Appleby, of Redditch and Bromsgrove AC, taking the honours in the women’s section with a time of 49.58.

The leading over-50 runners were Connor Carson (37.35) and Lindsey Lewis-Painter (43.04) while Harry Jefferson (38.12) and Sam Robbins (40.22) completed the top three behind Spriggs in the under-18 category.
