Danny Janes resigns as Alcester Town manager

ALCESTER Town have confirmed the resignation of manager Danny Janes.

This season was Janes’ third year in management, his second with the first team after Janes managed the club's reserves for one year.

The 28-year-old leaves the club after guiding them to fourth in Midland League Division Three this season, having finished seventh in 2016/17.

Janes planned to resign in February, but he wanted to delay the announcement so that his team could maintain their focus as they chased promotion.

“I have not taken this decision lightly," said Janes.

I knew from the start of the season that this could be my last season.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed managing the first-team, it was been a privilege to work at such a well-run and supportive club.

"I have learnt a lot in my three years in management, lessons that have shaped me as a manager and will also impact me as a player.

"I wanted to delay the announcement as I did not want the players to lose focus, I didn’t want them to worry about next season opposed to focusing on this season.

"Now that we have the cup final out of the way and we know where we stand in the league, now is the right time.”

Janes said it was difficult decision to quit and one he feels he may regret in the future.

“I am really happy with what we have achieved in the two years with the first team.

"In my opinion, Alcester have never had a better squad than what we had this season. We attracted a calibre of players that a club like Alcester should never really attract.

"We compete against clubs with better facilities, playing budgets, as well as the attraction of progressing to a first team – for example FC Stratford have the selling point of Stratford Town.

"We have worked really hard to recruit the players we have done, I think we have done a fantastic job in terms of promoting the club. No doubt I will miss it, but it is the right decision at this moment in time.”
