Davis Cup is on its way to Stratford
THE Davis Cup trophy is coming to Stratford-upon-Avon later this month.
Following Great Britain’s historic win against Belgium in the 2015 Davis Cup final, when Team GB hoisted the trophy for the first time in 79 years, the LTA is celebrating the occasion with Davis Cup Trophy Tour.
The tour started in April and will visit more than 100 clubs and organisations across the country, including Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club.
Local school children, members and the general public will be given an opportunity to see and be pictured with the trophy, as well as having a chance to pick up a racket and play a bit of tennis themselves.
Chairman of Stratford Tennis Club, John Dixon, said: “We were so thrilled to hear that Stratford had been chosen as host venue on the Davis Cup Trophy Tour.
“This really does crown what has been an exceptional 12 months for our club.
“We now have two fantastic indoor courts for use from September through to April and in recognition of this achievement we were delighted to receive the prestigious Club of the Year 2015 award from the Warwickshire Lawn Tennis Association.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming people to the club on Sunday 25th, not only to see the Davis Cup but also to try tennis for free and to see what a friendly and welcoming club Stratford is.”
