Dwyer clears new PB and qualifies for World Under-20 Championships
RORY Dwyer guaranteed his place in the World Under-20 Athletics Championships with victory in the National Under-20 Championships at Bedford on Sunday.
Ranked the number one at high jump in the country, the Stratford AC athlete was the favourite and lived up to his billing, jumping brilliantly.
Dwyer’s personal best before the event was 2.16m from 2014, but he cleared a new best of 2.17m to win the event.
With that height in the bag, Dwyer went on to attempt 2.20m, only just failing on the third attempt.
His efforts have sealed his place at the World Juniors in Poland next month. “It was an unbelievable day,” said Dwyer, who lives in Alcester.
“I jumped a new PB of 2.17, won the under-20 nationals which gives me automatic selection for the World Junior Championships in Poland.
“Massive thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me to this point. Now the hard work can begin!”
