EMILY Adams continued her bid to compete in all of the world’s Marathon Majors after completing last Sunday’s Chicago Marathon.

The Stratford AC runner also kept up her record of running the races in less than four hours, running a time of 3.57.19, having previously achieved that in both London and Berlin.

The fact that she was able to run under the four-hour mark was testament to her remarkable determination.

For various reasons, including recurring injuries, a few weeks ago Adams could barely run a dozen miles, but with typical resilience and hard work, she delivered when it mattered.

Her 5k splits for the first 30k of the race showed superb consistency, with less than a minute-and-a-half separating them.

Adams will now look forward to many more training miles and getting a few more stamps in the back of her passport, as she strives to realise her ambition.

The race was won by Abel Kirui in a time of 2.11.23, winning by just four seconds. The first lady to finish was Florence Kiplagat in 2.21.32. The first five male and first four female finishers were all Kenyan.
