Feller's on the Mark in prestigious Town Bowl
MARK Feller won the prestigious Town Bowl at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club last weekend in an exciting and tense finish from Matthew Vale.
Played over 36 holes and two days, 24 players returned to the course early on Sunday morning to complete their first round due to the suspension of play from the thunder and lightning the previous evening.
The top 36 players from the 130 competing with a first round score of nett 73 then took to the course in glorious sunshine for the final round.
Nine players were within three shots of first round leader Steve Wortley on nett 66, while Feller was further back on 71.
A final round of 67 from his seven handicap saw him tie with Matthew Vale on the same aggregate score of 138.
With both players having the same handicap and same scores but in reverse order, Feller won the trophy with a lower final round.
Many members returned to the club to witness his final shot of the day, a 10ft birdie putt to win the prestigious title — originally presented to the club in 1935.
Feller kindly offered all members present to join him in the bar for a well-earned refreshment.
Result: 1 M Feller nett 71/67 (7) 138, 2 M Vale 67/71 (7) 138, 3rd – D James 71/69 ( 17) 140, R Copperthwaite 68/72 (1) 140.
