Ford wins Town Bowl for a second time
NICK Ford won the coveted Town Bowl at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club for a second time last weekend.
The event saw 150 members play on Saturday, with the leading 36 net scores progress to the second and final round on Sunday morning.
Lying three shots back after an impressive first round gross 75, net 69, Ford moved up a gear with a birdie, birdie, eagle finish to his front nine holes, eventually carding a gross 73 (67) to win the trophy by four shots.
It was the second time Ford has won the Bowl, with his first triumph coming back in 2006.
Runners-up were 15-year-old county player Theo Barnes and the ever-consistent Pete Davies. Both shot 69 and 71 for a 140 total.
Ford was presented with the famous trophy in front of a packed gallery outside the clubhouse by captain of the club, David Rigg.
Meanwhile, the club also held their annual Ladies Spring Open last Wednesday on what was an extremely wet day.
With golfers travelling from across the region, the event was reduced to a nine-hole competition.
Three ladies from Tadmarton Heath Golf Club won with 39 points in this three-ball alliance format.
The club now look forward to their men’s spring invitation this weekend, where members invite the guest of their choice to enjoy a great day out.
