Gibbs set to smash fundraising target for charity race at Warwick
AIR Ambulance paramedic Philippa Gibbs is hoping to raise £1,700 for the charity, which covers Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, in a race at Warwick’s final meeting of the season, Think Pink Warwick Ladies Day, on 18th May, writes David Hucker.
She will partner Gwili Spar, trained at Kineton by Laura Hurley and owned by her mother Bronwen, in a charity race around the historic Warwick track which has hosted racing for over 300 years.
Although experienced in team chasing, this will be Gibbs’ first attempt at riding on a racecourse, something that she describes as a “slightly scary” venture.
“It’s a real challenge to do this, but also an honour” said Gibbs.
“Originally, I set a target of £1,000 but, having nearly reached this, am now aiming for £1,700 which is the cost of one mission flown by the service.
"I am so often the one using the medicines and equipment that cost so much, so it’s great to be able help in a small way to raise some money.”
