TWO recent open meetings provided some strong competition for some of Stratford AC’s middle distance group.

At the Worcester AC Open, Henry Grisenthwaite powered to 53.0 personal best in the men’s 400m.

This was a close race where Grisenthwaite came fourth in a blanket finish.

This was only his third race of the season and it looks like there will be more improvements to come.

In the following women’s 400m, Jess Sheppard recorded another sub-60, clocking 59.73 in coming a close second in the race.

Charlotte Gravelsons raced hard for third place in 46.24 in the under-15 300m, fractionally outside her best.

At the British Milers Club meeting at Tipton, Imogen Sheppard pushed the pace in the 800m, on route to a solid 2.18 in fifth place in a very close race, with only two seconds covering the first eight runners.

Georgie Campbell maintained her strong recent form with 4.57.9 just outside her best in the 1500m.

There was a pacemaker for this race, but he was too quick on the first lap, leaving the field slowing in the latter stages of the race so Campbell settled for her second best ever time.
