STRATFORD Town have received a huge boost after tying down Will Grocott to a new contract at Knights Lane.

The former Kettering Town midfielder, who scooped four player-of-the-year awards at the end of last season, will remain at Town for the whole of the 2017/18 campaign.

"I'm over the moon Will has recommitted to the club," said manager Carl Adams, who plans to retain the majority of last season's squad.

"He will be playing a huge part for us both now and into the future."

Grocott said it was a "no-brainer" to sign and believes the club are more than capable of pushing for a top-ten place in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division next season.

He said: "It was a no-brainer to re-sign for Stratford. It's a great squad and management team, with excellent club officials and fans.

"I believe we can push the top ten teams in the coming season by keeping last year's squad together and by adding a few fresh faces. I can't wait to get going."

Town will be holding on to the bulk of last season's squad, but Niall Cooper, Jamie Spencer, George Forsyth and Wayne Thomas will not be returning after agreeing terms elsewhere.

Thomas has taken his first step into management at Rushall Olympic, while striker Spencer has moved to Yorkshire.

First-choice goalkeeper Cooper has signed for relegated Rugby Town, who have been allocated a place in the Midland League Premier Division next season.

George Forsyth, who impressed while on loan from Kidderminster last season, has agreed a deal with Vanarama National League South side Gloucester City.
