Jackson delighted as he dominates final race at Thruxton
HENLEY'S Mat Jackson endured a mixed weekend at Thruxton, during rounds seven, eight and nine of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
It culminated in victory in race three, which moves the Motorbase Performance driver up to fourth in the drivers' standings after nine races.
Jackson was one of the high profile names to suffer a major tyre failure in the first race, with his left-front tyre exploding and making a mess of the surrounding bodywork.
A strong recovery drive from the 35-year-old in race two saw him claw his way back up to eighth on the grid, placing him on the front row with the reverse grid draw.
Race three saw Jackson leapfrog Dan Welch off the line and he never looked back, controlling the race to take a comfortable victory and move himself up into fourth place in the points table.
"Obviously it didn’t start the way that it should’ve which was frustrating,” said Jackson. “But to top it off in the end with race three is a good result. It’s been a good weekend overall.
“The hard work everyone puts in is paying off and we’re in a good place. The car’s performing well and we just need to keep clocking up the points. We’re all looking forward to going into Oulton Park in the championship fight.”
