Jackson splits from Motorbase ahead of new BTCC season
HENLEY-in-Arden's Mat Jackson has split from Motorbase Performance after eight seasons with the team.
The British Touring Car Championship racer joined Motorbase in 2010, claiming 20 race wins while also winning the Independent Teams' title in 2016.
The 36-year-old had agreed a deal with remain with the Kent-based team only last month, but his contract has now been terminated.
“Mat Jackson has been a fantastic driver for Motorbase Performance and I’ve enjoyed all of the years that we have worked together," said team boss David Bartrum.
"We’ve had some great times, but like all things in life, things move on.
“Motorbase has been around for 15 years and 2018 marks our 12 season racing the BTCC, Mat has been a big part of that history, however, drivers come and go and good teams carry on racing.
“I wish Mat all the best in everything he does in the future. It’s been great working with him and we shall all miss him.”
Jackson says the termination of his contract could leave him without a seat this season.
He said: "On Wednesday, my contract to drive the Motorbase Performance car was terminated.
"Unfortunately, this is quite late in the day and therefore I might be a spectator this year."
