Stratford racing driver Lucas Blantford lands seat in BRSCC Junior Ford Fiesta Championship
LUCAS Blantford’s racing career has taken the next step after it was announced the talented driver would be competing in the BRSCC Junior Ford Fiesta Championship for the next two years.
The 13-year-old from Stratford had initially planned to race in the Junior Saloon Car Championship for 2023, a series for 14- to 17-year-olds involving grids of up to 30 Citroen Saxos.
This would have been the entry level to the world of touring cars for the Stratford School pupil and progression to the BRSCC Junior Ford Fiesta Championship would have been the next logical step.
Instead, Blantford will be jumping straight into racing Ford Fiestas for the next two years in the TCR-UK Touring Car Championship support series after being offered an opportunity he could not refuse.
Lucas’s father Adrian told the Herald: “Lucas is absolutely over the moon with the news.
“There’s no real expectation on him next year, as it will be a learning year, and being a part of this series will be the making of Lucas as a racing driver.
“For his development, this is a huge step for him and probably one most people with Lucas’s experience don’t get.
“Lucas has got the ability, though, and we believe he will soak everything up being a part of this championship.”
Blantford, who is still in the recovery phase after the horror 70mph crash at Whilton Mill where he broke both of his wrists, is expected to be back behind the wheel of a racing car by the end of January.
