The Stratford Boat Club masters rowers swapped seats for the event at Northampton RC, with Fusco at stroke and Goodwin at bow.

This new combination certainly didn’t hamper their performance, as they won their category by 11 seconds over their Northampton rivals.

Meanwhile, much closer to home, some of Stratford’s athletes took part in their own mini head race on the upstream stretch of the Avon.

This was the club’s second mini head with five crews taking part.

The focus was on the results for runs one and two – taking place just past Fisherman’s car park and then upstream and back – where the times were averaged out to provide a ranking.

Coxless and coxed fours, quads, doubles and a single all took part, with the overall ranking for runs one and two calculated with the results adjusted for age and boat type.

Chris Belcher, organiser of the mini head, said: “A big thank-you to the two launch drivers, timekeepers, result recorders and helpers who made the event possible. We will do it all again in the spring, hopefully with more single scullers to make the event more challenging.”
