STRATFORD'S Paralympic champion Megan Giglia has been named in the squad of 20 riders who will represent the Great Britain cycling team at the forthcoming UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Italy.

The championships will see the 33-year-old, who first wore national colours at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Maniago in 2015, mark her first appearance at a road world championships since Rio 2016 and look to add to her tally of three para-cycling world championship titles on the track.

Performance director Stephen Park said: “We have selected a strong squad of riders to represent us out in Maniago in August and there’s a lot of potential for success.

“I’m pleased to see so many Paralympic champions competing as we build towards Tokyo.

“The qualification period for Tokyo 2020 is well underway for the para-cycling squad and they topped the medal table at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio back in March.

"The first world cup of the season went well for the team, who won 14 medals in Ostend, and I’ll be looking for them to back that up out in Maniago.”

Giglia added: “There’s no better feeling that representing your country, and I’m very proud to have been selected in such a strong squad.

"There’ll no doubt be plenty of talented riders to compete against out in Italy, but I’m confident I’ll be in the mix for a spot on the podium spot.”

Britain’s most successful female Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, returns to elite level competition following the birth of her son and will be looking to add to her impressive tally of 23 para-cycling world championship titles in Maniago.

Joining Storey will be Lora Fachie piloted by Corrine Hall, Crystal Lane-Wright and Katie Toft, all of whom won gold medals at the World Cup in Ostend last month.

Paralympic champions Steve Bate and his pilot Adam Duggleby, Karen Darke and Louis Rolfe will be back in action, while Will Bjergfelt, Craig Collis McCann, Hannah Dines, Mel Nicholls, Simon Price, Liz Saul, David Smith and Ben Watson will represent Great Britain in their respective categories.

Completing the line-up is Finlay Graham and George Peasgood, both of whom make their debut in Great Britain cycling team colours.
