MIKE and Gill Ball claimed glory in Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club’s Samuel Ryder Mixed Open.

More than 150 golfers entered from across the region, with Mike and Gill, of Walmley Golf Club, triumphing with a superb betterball score of 44 points.

Pairs from The Kendleshire, The Warwickshire, Burford, Stoneleigh and Willesley also fared well in the leading positions.

Meanwhile, the busy members’ competitions continued at Stratford GC, with Robert Clegg winning the 63-year-old Saville Cup with a steady net 70 from his 11 handicap.

David Price and new member James Hayes also returned the same score, but Clegg won by way of having a finer back nine-hole score.

The club’s ladies’ section contest the Boughton Salvers over 36 holes, with Mandy Newey winning the silver division on net 65 from Skye Furnace, Jacki Belchambers and Sheelagh Murray.

Linda Edgington topped the bronze division on 66, ahead of Vicky Barber and Rita Leefe.

Stratford GC now looks forward to its Club Championships, which take place this Saturday.

Men’s Midweek Medal results: 1 Andrew Spriggs 85 (18) 67. 2 Tom Lee 76 (7) 69, 3 Anthony Brookes 77 (8) 69.
