Mills' double gives Alcester's promotion hopes a huge boost

ALCESTER Town came out on top of their Midland League Division Three promotion battle with FC Stratford at Stratford Road on Monday night.

A strong first-half display paved the way for Danny Janes' side, who claimed a 3-2 victory to go within two points of second-placed Boldmere Sports with a game in hand.

James Gifford gave Stratford an early lead, before Alcester game storming back to lead 3-1 at the break thanks to strikes from Chris Mills (2) and Louis Bridges.

An improved Stratford got one back through Ashley Wilkes, but Alcester withstood further pressure to bag a vital three points.

Both sides are back in action on Tuesday night. Alcester go to Boldmere in a crunch clash, while FC Stratford welcome Birmingham Tigers to the MoodChimp Stadium.
