WARWICKSHIRE Bears Women travelled to the Nottingham Wildcats Arena last weekend to play four matches in the first round of the BWB Women’s League.

Bears got off to a winning start with a 34-6 success over Stoke Spitfires. Warwickshire used their dominance to give a good run-out to the returning Anna Turney and new recruits Jaymee Powell and Jenny Lee Rollason.

Next up was a strong Angels of the North 3rds team and Bears found it tough going, losing 44-17.

The ladies started nervously and had no response to Angels’ forwards scoring heavily in the Bears’ basket.

Warwickshire faced the Spitfires again on Sunday and they finished as comfortable winners again, 26-11.

A rematch against Angels of the North saw Bears secure revenge and thanks to a high intensity defence, Warwickshire secured a 24-16 success.

“The ladies were fantastic,” said coach Robinson.

“It was a heavy schedule for such a small squad, but the girls were not going to give anything less than 100 per cent.

“It was also great to see Anna Turney back playing and the new girls were brilliant in their first women’s league games.”
