Norton Lindsey build on their summer of success

THE grass is definitely becoming greener at Norton Lindsey and Wolverton Cricket Club.

Building on the success of last summer, three sides will now play in the Cotswold Hills League in 2017.

James Pyatt stays as skipper of the first XI, who are promoted to the premier division.

The second and third teams will be led by Dan Fell and Martin Hall, playing in divisions three and six respectively.

Visitors continue to enjoy the chance to bat on a wicket affectionately known as ‘The Road’.

Off the pitch, the continuing refurbishment of the clubhouse is creating first-class social and changing facilities.

There are also plans to renew the practice nets and introduce dedicated WiFi during the coming season.

Much of the growth has come from the success of the junior section, co-ordinated by Andy Dewar.

With midweek and Sunday friendlies, the club can now offer cricket to players of all abilities.

A spring tour to the west country is becoming a popular event, preparing players for all aspects of the new season.

Meanwhile, winter nets begin on 24th February, 7pm at Stratford High School.

Jerry Ashley, club chairman, said: “Norton Lindsey is a unique village cricket club, with over 125 years of history.

“Playing matches in the full spirit of the game, and creating many great memories on and off the field.”
