Our round-up of the weekend’s non-league football
CHARLIE Williams held his nerve to convert a last gasp penalty and salvage a point for Stratford Town at Bishops Stortford.
But it would have been all three points had the Bards managed to convert more of their chances and had home keeper Elliot Krasniqi had such an inspired game.
Olu Oluwatimilehin fired the home side into a 25th minute lead with Callum Ebanks missing the pick of Stratford’s early opportunities.
The visitors continued to press with Lewis Ison and Dan Lafferty going close but in the end it took a penalty in the ninth added minute to level the scores. Lafferty was upended in the box and Williams made no mistake with the spot kick.
The result means the Bards remain fourth in the Southern League Premier Central table ahead of tomorrow’s (Tuesday) night’s game at home to AFC Sudbury.
Studley’s slim hopes of securing a play-off place in the MFL Premier Division suffered another knock as they lost 2-0 at Uttoxeter Town, a result that leaves them 12 points adrift of the top five.
And Division Two side Earlswood Town also lost but pushed league leaders Knowle all the way before finally going down 3-2 at The Pavilions. Two Elliot Edwards penalties made up the Earls’ tally.
FC Stratford lost out to Hellenic League Division One promotion rivals Clanfield 85 at the Arden Garages Stadium, an early Robbie Sone goal not enough to stop the visitors from running out 3-1 winners.
Shipston Excelsior’s match at home to Graven Hill in the Oxfordshire Senior League was postponed.
