Russell finishes with a flourish to win Warwickshire PGA Strokeplay Championship
STRATFORD-on-Avon Golf Club hosted one of the most coveted competitions in the region this week, the Warwickshire PGA Strokeplay Championship.
Some of the finest professionals in the county competed on what was a beautiful day, on a challenging golf course.
Setting the early pace was the club’s assistant professional Matthew Brookes, who teed off first, returning a score of a one over par 73.
Matthew Pugh, from the John Reay Golf Centre, also carded a 73, which included a hole-in-one on the par three tenth hole.
Ben Russell, from Shirley Golf Club, was four-under-par through 13 holes, however, having bogeyed two of his final five holes returned a final score of 70 and had to endure a nervous wait in the clubhouse.
Only Sam Dodds, from Coventry, challenged him with a 71, therefore Russell was crowned the champion.
