AUSTRALIA'S Sarah Roy sprang a late surprise to secure victory ahead of the sprinting peloton on stage three of the Ovo Energy Women's Tour in Leamington Spa on Friday.

Roy (Mitchelton-Scott) jumped clear of the field inside the final five kilometres and held off the charging sprinters' teams to win the 151km route, which took in large swathes of the Stratford-on-Avon district.

"I was a little bit overwhelmed at the finish," said an emotional Roy.

"I had a few tears, which I've never had before. I wasn't feeling that good yesterday, but my coach this morning told me I've got to fight."

Coryn Rivera (Team Sunweb) retained the overall lead, with Briton Dani Rowe falling to third, 20 seconds adrift and behind WaowDeals team-mate Marianne Vos of Holland, in a race which concludes on Sunday.
