Shipston cruise to glory in Cotswold Cup

SHIPSTON Angling Club are celebrating after winning the annual Cotswold Cup.

This year was the turn of Burford to host the competition, in a match that consisted of ten men in a team, in sections of four with 40 anglers fishing in total.

The Shipston team of Stuart Fleming, Andy Bruce, Darren Cox, Trevor Chalk, Mal Hallows, Chris Hallows, Simon Slowther, Simon Tucker, Jason Paris and Pete Wedgebrow claimed glory after picking up 13 points, with seven first places and three second places.

Hosts Burford were second with 27 points, ahead of Moreton in third (29) and Norgren in fourth (32).

On Saturday, Steve Aston won the Shipston Angling Club contest held on the River Stour at Honington.

Aston claimed victory with 13lb 9oz of mainly chub. Malcolm Allinson caught 12lb 6oz of chub and roach for second.

Third place went to Rob Taylor, who caught 10lb 8oz of chub. Sunday saw nine Shipston AC members travel to Newbury to fish the Help for Heroes match on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The match raised more than £700 for the charity and Dave Smith from Newbury won with over 22lb perch and tench. Shipston’s Chris Coleman was second with a 9lb mixed net.
