Skipper Barnett so proud as Wellesbourne win third title on the trot

Wellesbourne celebrate their latest title success on Saturday.

WELLESBOURNE secured their third Coltswold Hills League Premier Division title on the trot with a fine four-wicket win over Overbury at Loxley Close on Saturday.

Bourne went into the match without four key members of last year’s winning side, but the players dug deep, particularly in the bowling department, to achieve a brilliant hat-trick.

At the start of the season, a mid-table finish looked realistic, but skipper Dave Barnett said: “I was very proud and really happy with the lads.

“The honest truth was, with a few guys going, we knew we’d be there or thereabouts, but not necessarily win the league again.

“There have been gaps in the team, but players have put their hands up. The one thing we have which other teams don’t is good availability.”

When asked if Bourne could make it four in a row in next summer, Barnett added: “It’ll be a big ask, but hopefully if we get a few new guys in, along with some really good juniors coming through, then I wouldn’t rule it out.”
