STRATFORD AC's Alex Adams produced a superb performance to win the Junior Great North Run under-11 race last weekend.

The event is a curtain-raiser to the main event held the following day and the 4km junior course starts on the Newcastle side of the River Tyne, taking the young runners to Gateshead, via the Swing Bridge.

The course then loops along the river, before the athletes go back across the Gateshead Millennium Bridge towards the finishing line on the Newcastle side.

Adams finished ahead of 635 other runners in a time of 15.05 - 14 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

The ten-year-old bided his time, until with a mile to go he moved up in to first place, a position he did not relinquish.

It was then time to take his place at the top of the podium to collect his deserved medal and trophy.
